Personal, Professional, & Educational Background

Personal Background - Living Abroad & Sense of Adventure
I was born in London, United Kingdom, but at the age of 14 months, I relocated to the United States. Initially intended as an 18-month work assignment, it ultimately became our permanent residence.
My childhood was shared with three brothers, and over time, our family expanded to include two sister-in-laws and an adorable nephew and niece. I am happily married to my amazing husband, and together, we share our lives with a beloved German Shepherd named Samantha (Sam).
I find pleasure in pushing myself by engaging in workouts and cultivating a healthy lifestyle. As a Certified Personal Trainer accredited by the National Academy of Sports Medicine, I integrate this expertise into my work with teenagers and young adults when suitable.
I am deeply fascinated by the exploration of new and diverse destinations and immersing myself in various cultures. Whether it involves hiking in the mountains or delving into the history and customs of different countries, I truly cherish these adventures.
Embracing new experiences and surmounting challenges have been instrumental in shaping the person I have become today.
Personal Background - Service, Acceptance, & Helping Others Overcome Emotional Challenges
From an early age, my heart has always been dedicated to assisting others. During my childhood, I actively sought out volunteer opportunities to lend a hand in areas that required help. This marked the beginning of my passion for philanthropy, which persisted throughout my college years and beyond to today.
At a young age, I learned the significance of offering unconditional positive regard to others. Working with individuals in challenging circumstances allowed me to witness the remarkable resilience they exhibited when confronted with adversity. This experience ignited my desire to delve deeper into understanding depression, anxiety, and trauma.
My objective is to assist teenagers, young adults, and families in overcoming past and present challenges while equipping them with effective coping skills for a happier life. I offer valuable tools that help individuals to navigate through new situations successfully. Moreover, my aspiration is to aid people in cultivating a healthy lifestyle that contributes to the well-being of their minds and brains.
In my practice encompassing teen therapy, young adult counseling, family therapy, couples therapy, and marriage counseling, I am committed to creating a safe and non-judgmental environment for my clients. This space allows them to heal from past or current traumas, cope with feelings of depression, anxiety, panic attacks, PTSD, and other challenges they may face.
My ultimate goal is to support and guide them on their journey towards healing and emotional well-being.
Having personally experienced anxiety and depression at various points in my life, I understand the significance of a safe, warm, and inviting environment in therapy. Such an atmosphere played a crucial role in making me feel more at ease, allowing me to open up and share my experiences with a therapist. It reinforced my belief in the importance of providing the same kind of comforting space for my clients, so they too can feel supported and empowered on their path to healing.
Educational Background
My path to becoming a teen counselor, young adult therapist, family therapist, and marriage counselor & couples therapist started with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston. I majored in psychology and minored in communication sciences and disorders.
These two degrees helped me understand developmental milestones, and how positive relationships and experiences can impact a teenager and young adult's life.
Following the completion of my Bachelor's degree, I pursued a Masters of Arts in Forensic Psychology at the University of Houston-Victoria. This advanced degree equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge to become a proficient child, teen, young adult, family therapist, as well as a couples therapist and marriage counselor.
Armed with this comprehensive education, I am better prepared to address the diverse needs of my clients and provide effective therapeutic support in various settings.
Professional Background
During my educational journey, I gained valuable experience by working in a forensic setting, specifically with high-risk teens, young adults, and adults. This exposure allowed me to engage in diagnostic psychological evaluations and testing, along with providing individual counseling centered around trauma, anxiety, and depression.
Following the attainment of my Master's Degree, I have been dedicated to offering individual counseling to individuals dealing with a range of difficulties, including trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. My commitment to helping others navigate through these challenges has been a central focus of my professional career.
I primarily employ Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as my main therapeutic modalities. By utilizing these approaches, my aim is to guide clients in recognizing their strengths and using them as a foundation to accomplish their therapeutic objectives.
These approaches that are supported by research and shown to be effective help me provide practical tools and strategies to empower individuals on their journey to healing and personal growth.
The client takes the lead while I help guide the process in defining the goals they wish to achieve. My role as a therapist is to offer unwavering support and guidance, collaborating with them on their therapeutic journey.
Together, we work towards overcoming obstacles and finding effective solutions, allowing them to move towards healing and personal growth.
